Wind Project Development

Wind projects depend on wind resource quality, land availability across often-larger footprints than solar, and grid access — all of which need to be assessed together before a site is worth pursuing. We work with developers and IPPs through the early, land- and resource-dependent phase of wind project development.

As with our other renewable energy work, execution is carried out by qualified EPC partners; our role is sourcing, qualification and coordination through to contract and handover.

The stages of a wind project

Wind development typically runs from prospecting and resource measurement, through land securing and micrositing, to approvals, grid connectivity, EPC contracting, construction and commissioning. Resource measurement alone can run for an extended period before a layout is fixed.

We focus on the stages where land and landowners determine the pace, and coordinate with the technical partners handling the resource and engineering work.

Constraints beyond wind speed

Turbine spacing to limit wake losses, setbacks from dwellings, roads and other infrastructure, and a transport route that can carry long blades and heavy nacelles all shape what a site can hold. Check applicable setback norms with the relevant state agency.

Grid connectivity is the other hard constraint. A strong wind site far from available evacuation capacity can be much harder to develop than a moderate one close to it.

What we bring

Local land networks, early and consistent engagement with landowners across the footprint, documentation organised for legal review, and coordination with EPC partners once the site is secured.

What We Do Directly

  • Site sourcing against a developer's capacity and geography brief
  • Preliminary land and access qualification for candidate wind sites
  • Coordination with landowners across the (often larger, multi-owner) footprint a wind project requires
  • Project advisory through qualification and contracting

Delivered Through Qualified Partners

  • Wind resource assessment and micrositing
  • Turbine selection, procurement and installation
  • Grid connectivity studies and substation works
  • Post-commissioning O&M, coordinated on the owner's behalf

We coordinate execution through qualified EPC and delivery partners rather than building or manufacturing in-house.

Process

  1. 01Define capacity, budget and preferred geography with the developer or IPP
  2. 02Source and shortlist candidate sites against land and access criteria
  3. 03Qualify sites: land title, access roads and preliminary grid-proximity checks
  4. 04Coordinate landowner agreements across the project footprint
  5. 05Introduce qualified EPC partners and support through contracting

Who It's For

  • IPPs and developers building a wind or wind-inclusive project pipeline
  • Investors evaluating wind project opportunities in India
  • Landowners in wind-resource areas considering a lease arrangement

Documents & Inputs Needed

  • Target capacity range and preferred geography
  • Grid connectivity requirements, if defined
  • Any existing wind resource data or site shortlist

Deliverables

  • Shortlist of qualified candidate sites
  • Landowner engagement and agreement coordination across the footprint
  • Introduction to qualified EPC partners
  • Status tracking through to contract execution
