Hybrid Wind-Solar Projects

Hybrid wind-solar projects combine both technologies at a shared or adjacent site, often sharing a grid connection point and some infrastructure. Where wind and solar resource both exist at a site, this can make more efficient use of land and interconnection capacity than developing each separately.

We coordinate the land and site work for hybrid projects the same way we do for standalone solar or wind — sourcing, qualifying and bringing in qualified EPC partners for execution.

Why co-locate wind and solar

Wind and solar often generate at different times of day and in different seasons, so combining them at one site can produce a steadier output profile than either alone. Sharing land and evacuation infrastructure can also improve how much of a grid connection's capacity is actually used. Check resource complementarity with site-specific data.

Hybrid projects have been encouraged through specific central and state policy measures at various points. Check the framework currently in force before structuring a project around it.

Design considerations

Layout has to keep solar arrays clear of turbine foundations, crane areas and access roads, and avoid shading from towers. Land partitioning, construction sequencing and the interface between two technical partners all need to be planned together rather than bolted on.

On the land side, a hybrid site usually combines the contiguous parcels a solar array needs with the wider rights a wind layout needs — which is where early, joined-up land planning pays off.

What We Do Directly

  • Site sourcing and qualification assessed for both wind and solar resource
  • Landowner coordination across the combined footprint
  • Coordination between solar and wind EPC partners where separate contractors are involved
  • Project advisory on sequencing and shared infrastructure

Delivered Through Qualified Partners

  • Combined or separate resource assessment for wind and solar
  • EPC execution for both technologies
  • Shared grid interconnection engineering

We coordinate execution through qualified EPC and delivery partners rather than building or manufacturing in-house.

Process

  1. 01Assess a site's combined wind and solar resource potential
  2. 02Source and qualify land suited to both technologies
  3. 03Coordinate landowner agreements across the shared footprint
  4. 04Introduce qualified EPC partners for each technology
  5. 05Support through contracting and execution coordination

Who It's For

  • Investors evaluating hybrid project opportunities for resource and grid efficiency
  • Landowners with large sites suited to combined development

Documents & Inputs Needed

  • Site location and any existing wind or solar resource data
  • Target combined capacity and grid connectivity requirement

Deliverables

  • Combined site qualification assessment
  • Landowner engagement coordination
  • Introduction to qualified EPC partners for each technology
