What happened
The Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II for solar cells came into force on 1 June 2026, TaiyangNews reported. As reported:
- Eligible projects must use modules from ALMM List-I made with cells from ALMM List-II.
- The requirement covers government and government-supported projects, specified procurement arrangements, and net-metering and open access projects commissioned on or after 1 June 2026.
- MNRE did not grant a blanket extension, but said it would consider case-by-case relief for projects at an advanced stage, through its online portal.
- Enlisted List-II cell capacity exceeded 30 GW as of the April 2026 revision.
- A List-III for ingots and wafers is scheduled for 1 June 2028.
Why it matters
For industrial consumers commissioning rooftop or open access solar, equipment sourcing now affects compliance, cost and timelines. EPC proposals should state clearly which modules and cells will be used and how compliance will be documented. See how to evaluate an EPC contractor. Check the current MNRE orders for exact scope and exemptions.
