Solar

Solar project needs vary enormously by scale — a utility-scale project assembling hundreds of acres has little in common operationally with a C&I rooftop installation, even though both start with a site assessment. We work across the full range: utility-scale, commercial & industrial, open access and group captive, plus the land and O&M services that support them.

Choosing the right solar model

Utility-scale projects are built to sell power at scale, typically under a long-term power purchase agreement. Commercial and industrial (C&I) projects serve a specific consumer, either on that consumer's own roof or land, or from a remote plant through open access or group captive arrangements.

The right model depends on who will consume the power, how much land is realistically available, and the regulatory route that applies in the relevant state. Getting that decision right first avoids sourcing the wrong kind of land.

What makes a solar site viable

Beyond solar irradiance, the practical checks are shading from terrain or structures, slope and drainage, flood exposure, soil conditions for mounting structures, all-weather road access, and distance to a substation with spare evacuation capacity.

On the land side, the checks are title, land-use classification, encumbrances and — where several owners are involved — whether the parcels genuinely form one usable, contiguous site.

Where solar projects usually slip

Delays most often trace back to title defects discovered late, land-use conversion taking longer than planned, fragmented holdings that never quite close, or evacuation capacity at the nearest substation turning out to be constrained. Check grid availability with the relevant transmission utility for any specific site.

Each of these is cheaper to find at the qualification stage than after an EPC partner has been engaged, which is why our process front-loads them.
